Cucumbers in Garlic Yogurt (Cacık)


In Turkey, cacık is served as a side dish for kebabs, other meat dishes or even just plain rice. Cacık can be served in a small bowl and can be eaten with a spoon just like a soup. It is a simple recipe, which does not take more than a few minutes to make.


INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 small Persian cucumber
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • dill weed & olive oil (for garnish)


DIRECTIONS:

  1. Peel and coarsely grate the cucumber. It is also possible to finely chop the cucumber.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix the yogurt, water, olive oil and salt.
  3. Add the garlic clove after passing it through your garlic press. Mix well.
  4. Add the grated cucumber, mix well.
  5. Garnish with olive oil and dill weed. Serve cold.
